Q:What is settlement cycle?
A: Settlement cycle is an accounting period for the
securities traded on the exchange. At present, trading being
done on the basis of T+3 rolling settlement system which
employs that the trading done on Monday is settled on the
3rd day i.e. on Thursday. Likewise, trading done on Tuesday
will be settled on Friday and so on. On settlement day, the
obligations of each broker are calculated and the brokers
settle their respective obligations as per the rules and
regulations of the Exchange.
Q: If an investor has sold the securities when does he deliver
them to the broker?
An investor has to deliver the securities
to the broker immediately upon his getting the order
execution confirmation slip or as mutually decided between
the investor and the broker.
Q:If the investor has bought securities when does he pay money to the brokers?
A: If
the investor has bought securities, he has to pay-in funds
to the broker before the settlement day or as mutually
decided between him and the trading member.
Q: When can an investor expect to receive
funds/securities from the broker?
A: The securities and the funds are paid out to the broker
well before the settlement day. The ISE regulations
stipulate that the trading members should pay the money to
the investor within 3 working days of the settlement day,
while delivery of securities shall be made by the member
after one week of the clearing/settlement date.
